Our commitment to sustainability influences our project work as well as the way we manage our workplace.

Aurecon has Groupwide Sustainability Committee and local Workplace Committees set up in each main office to facilitate and encourage practices aimed at reducing our workplace footprint. In July 2008, Aurecon commenced the process of undertaking a groupwide Greeenhouse Gas Inventory. Results from the inventory will assist us in forming policies and practices that enhance our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.

The following are some of the initiatives that some our local committees have implemented in their workplaces:

  • Installation of automatic light switches and light zoning
  • Distribution of the Aurecon "Eco-cup". A thermal mug provided to staff to encourage the use of reusable cups in place of take-away cups.
  • Introduction of whole of office recycling with the only bins at employee's desk being paper recycle bins.
  • Switching to 100% recycled paper for most of the day-to-day operations.
  • Composting of food wastes
  • Participation in Tree Planting days in local communities.

Engineers Without Borders

Aurecon was a sponsor of Access 2008, Engineers Without Border's annual conference. IDSS was the sponsor of "Meet the Makers" technology expo where 260 primary and high school children had the opportunity to meet and interact with designers and scientists behind sustainable technology that is making a difference to disadvantaged communities in Australia and worldwide.

Oxfam Trailwalker

We recognise that the preservation of the environment is intertwined with social development. The Melbourne Sustainability committee sponsored its first Oxfam Trailwalker team in 2008. The aim was to raise awareness of environmental conservation and its impact in communities, especially in developing countries.

We will be supporting this worthwhile event again in March 2009.

Aurecon also supports RedR, Earth Hour, Ride to Work Day, Movember, Daffodil Day, Jeans for Genes Day and Clean Up Australia Day.
